The Local Church
Blessed in the Local Church
I was born again on my tenth birthday in a small denominational church in a small west Texas town. The ministry of the gospel broke through to my young and open heart as in tears I accepted the Lord Jesus Christ as my personal Savior and gave my life to Him. Even in the early years of my childhood, the Spirit brooded over me through vacation Bible school where I heard many stories about Jesus and memorized verses such as John 3:16. I am sure my grandmother and my mother prayed much for me, therefore I received the Lord gladly.
Through the adolescent years I experienced the Lord more and more as my seeking of the Lord was continually met by the Lord's leading and guiding hand. While in high school, I began to read the books of Watchman Nee, Jesse Penn-Lewis, F.B. Meyer and Andrew Murry. As I read Watchman Nee's classic, The Normal Christian Life I longed for the experience of Christ subjectively and practically in my daily life. Soon I began to realize the fact of the indwelling Christ and acquired a taste for the truth of God's Word.
I believe through these experiences I was prepared to respond to the ministry of Witness Lee. I had tried traditional Christianity as well as the charismatic things but still felt the need for substantial truth and genuine, mutual fellowship. Eventually, by the Lord's precious and sovereign hand I was led to the local church in Houston. There I found some who were enjoying the truth of God's Word and practicing the church life in a sweet and blessed oneness.
Through the ministry of our dear brother Witness Lee and the Life-studies of the New Testament I have become grounded in the divine truths and supplied with the riches of Christ. My family and I have been so blessed. Now, through twenty-five plus years meeting in the local church, my wife and I have a beautiful family of three children who all love the Lord. I have not only completed college, medical school and residency training but have enjoyed a successful practice of medicine as a family doctor for greater than twelve years. Today I enjoy a wonderful church life in Arlington involving my children, many young people, both high school and college, and a very busy home. Our home and our life are for Christ and the church so that the Lord can have His Body expressed on the earth (Eph. 5:29-32). I continue to enjoy this ministry.
